Have questions about land surveys, property lines, or subdivision plans? Our FAQs provide clear answers to help you understand our services and make informed decisions.
01Which locations do you serve?
As Nanaimo surveyors, we offer construction surveying, land development, and land surveying services to Nanaimo, Victoria, Campbell River, Port Alberni, Tofino, Ucluelet, Port Hardy, Duncan, Courtenay, the Gulf Islands and all other areas on Vancouver Island. We also travel outside of this area.
02I’ve heard about the provincial Small-Scale Multi-Unit Housing (SSMU) initiative and want to know how that affects my property?
Zoning and land use regulations constantly change and vary between municipalities and regional districts. Our professionals have local knowledge and keep up-to-date on current bylaws. Email or phone us and we are happy to discuss any questions you may have.
03I’m interested in subdividing my property. Where do I start?
An email or phone call to our office is a good first step. Our professionals can apply their knowledge of local zoning and land use bylaws to determine what might be possible. We can provide a plan of the proposed subdivision suitable for submission with your development application. We can arrange a pre-application meeting with the local approving authority to discuss your proposal prior to the formal submission.
04My bank is asking for title insurance or a building location survey. What is the difference?
It’s important to consider having a land survey done before the purchase or sale of a property.
A survey can identify any encroachments, placement of buildings, and location of registered charges on title prior to the sale. It also provides a physical record of the state of the property.

05How much does a survey cost?
Every property is unique. Some factors that can affect cost are the age of historical surveys, nature of the terrain, and whether any recent survey work has been done in the area. Contact us today for a free estimate
06My neighbour says my fence is encroaching onto his property. Where are my property corners?
Only a British Columbia Land Surveyor (BCLS) can define and mark property lines and property corners in the Province of BC. We are governed by the Association of BC Land Surveyors and are bound by their code of ethics, acting in a completely unbiased manner and putting the integrity of the parcel fabric above all else. Turner and Associates can locate your original monuments or replace corners if they are missing, and provide an accurate location of the property boundary.
